The species Clostridium lortetii was originally described by Oren 1983. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 14 in 1984. In 1987, Oren et al. established Clostridium lortetii as the basonym of
Sporohalobacter lortetii (Oren 1984) Oren et al. 1988
.
