The species Clostridium phytofermentans was originally described and validly published by Warnick et al. 2002. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium phytofermentans as the basonym of
Lachnoclostridium phytofermentans (Warnick et al. 2002) Yutin and Galperin 2013
.
