The species Clostridium saccharolyticum was originally described and validly published by Murray et al. 1982. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium saccharolyticum as the basonym of
Lachnoclostridium saccharolyticum (Murray et al. 1982) Yutin and Galperin 2013
. In 2020, Haas and Blanchard established Clostridium saccharolyticum as the basonym of
Lacrimispora saccharolytica (Murray et al. 1982) Haas and Blanchard 2020
