The species Clostridium symbiosum was originally described by Kaneuchi et al. 1976. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established as the basonym of (Stevens 1956) Yutin and Galperin 2013 .
