The species Clostridium viride was originally described by Buckel et al. 1994. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 54 in 1995. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium viride as the basonym of
Ruminiclostridium viride (Buckel et al. 1995) Yutin and Galperin 2013
