The species Acetivibrio multivorans was originally described by Tanaka et al. 1991. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 40 in 1992. In 2014, Lawson et al. established as the basonym of (Tanaka et al. 1992) Lawson et al. 2014 .
