The species Anaerobacter polyendosporus was originally described by Duda et al. 1987. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. In 2009, Rainey et al. established Anaerobacter polyendosporus as the basonym of
Clostridium polyendosporum (Duda et al. 1996) Rainey et al. 2016
