The species Ruminococcus pasteurii was originally described by Schink 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 18 in 1985. In 1995, Janssen et al. established Ruminococcus pasteurii as the basonym of
Lactosphaera pasteurii (Schink 1985) Janssen et al. 1995
.
