The species Ruminococcus schinkii was originally described by Rieu-Lesme et al. 1996. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 60 in 1997. In 2008, Liu et al. established as the basonym of (Rieu-Lesme et al. 1997) Liu et al. 2008 .
