The species Ruminococcus schinkii was originally described by Rieu-Lesme et al. 1996. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 60 in 1997. In 2008, Liu et al. established Ruminococcus schinkii as the basonym of
Blautia schinkii (Rieu-Lesme et al. 1997) Liu et al. 2008
