The species Peptostreptococcus barnesae was originally described by Schiefer-Ullrich and Andreesen 1985. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. In 2001, Ezaki et al. established as the basonym of (Schiefer-Ullrich and Andreesen 1986) Ezaki et al. 2001 .
