The species Peptoniphilus harei was originally described and validly published by Ezaki et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Ezaki et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species Murdoch et al. 1997 into the genus Ezaki et al. 2001 emend. Aujoulat et al. 2021.
