The species Peptoniphilus indolicus was originally described and validly published by Ezaki et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Ezaki et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species
Peptostreptococcus indolicus (Christiansen 1934) Ezaki et al. 1983
into the genus Peptoniphilus Ezaki et al. 2001 emend. Aujoulat et al. 2021.
