Nomenclatural History
The genus Peptococcus was originally proposed by Kluyver and van Niel 1936. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Shkoporov et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2016. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Rogosa in 1974.
