The species Peptococcus saccharolyticus was originally described by Douglas 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1981, Kilpper-Bälz and Schleifer established as the basonym of (Foubert and Douglas 1948) Kilpper-Bälz and Schleifer 1984 .
