The species Desulfosporosinus auripigmenti was originally described and validly published by Stackebrandt et al. 2003. Stackebrandt et al. formed this name in 2003 by placing the species Newman et al. 2000 into the genus Stackebrandt et al. 1997 emend. Vatsurina et al. 2008.
