The species Desulfotomaculum kuznetsovii was originally described by Nazina et al. 1988. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 35 in 1990. In 2018, Watanabe et al. established as the basonym of (Nazina et al. 1990) Watanabe et al. 2018 .
