The species Anaerovibrio glycerini was originally described by Schauder and Schink 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. In 1999, Strömpl et al. established Anaerovibrio glycerini as the basonym of
Anaerosinus glycerini (Schauder and Schink 1996) Strömpl et al. 1999
