Nomenclatural History
The genus Propionispira was originally proposed by Schink et al. 1982. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 11 in 1983. Ueki et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2014. Ueki et al. transferred the members of Schleifer et al. 1990 into this genus in 2014.
