The species Caldicellulosiruptor lactoaceticus was originally described by Mladenovska et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 63 in 1997. Habib et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Nielsen et al. 1994) Onyenwoke et al. 2006 in 2021.
