Nomenclatural History
The genus Thermoanaerobacter was originally proposed by Wiegel and Ljungdahl 1981. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 9 in 1982. Lee et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2007. Rainey and Stackebrandt transferred the members of Ben-Bassat and Zeikus 1983 emend. Ollivier et al. 1985 into this genus in 1993. Lee et al. transferred the members of Zeikus et al. 1983 into this genus in 1993. Collins et al. transferred the members of Leigh and Wolfe 1983 into this genus in 1994.
