Nomenclatural History
The genus Halanaerobium was originally proposed by Zeikus et al. 1983. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 16 in 1984. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 79 in 2005. Oren corrected this name from (sic) to . Rainey et al. published an emended description of this genus in 1995. Rainey et al. transferred the members of Zhilina et al. 1992 into this genus in 1995.
