The species Halobacteroides acetoethylicus was originally described by Rengpipat et al. 1988. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 29 in 1989. In 1995, Rainey et al. established as the basonym of corrig. (Rengpipat et al. 1989) Rainey et al. 1995 .
