The species Halobacteroides lacunaris was originally described by Zhilina et al. 1991. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 41 in 1992. In 1995, Rainey et al. established as the basonym of corrig. (Zhilina et al. 1992) Rainey et al. 1995 .
