Nomenclatural History
The family Mycoplasmataceae was originally proposed by Freundt 1955. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Tully et al. published an emended description of this family in 1993. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Gupta et al. in 2018 and Gupta et al. in 2019. Gupta et al. transferred the members of Tully et al. 1993 into this family in 2019.
