The species Thermotoga thermarum was originally described by Windberger et al. 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 41 in 1992. In 2014, Bhandari and Gupta established as the basonym of (Windberger et al. 1992) Bhandari and Gupta 2014 .
