The species Mycoplasma leonicaptivi was originally described and validly published by Hill 1992. Trüper and de' Clari corrected this name from Mycoplasma leocaptivus (sic) to Mycoplasma leonicaptivi . In 2018, Gupta et al. established Mycoplasma leonicaptivi as the basonym of
Mycoplasmopsis leonicaptivi (Hill 1992) Gupta et al. 2018
