Nomenclatural History

The species Mycoplasma suis was originally described and validly published by Neimark et al. 2002. List Editor corrected this name from Mycoplasma haemosuis (sic) to Mycoplasma suis . Neimark et al. formed this name in 2002 by placing the species
Eperythrozoon suis Splitter 1950 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Mycoplasma Nowak 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Gupta et al. 2018.
The proposal of Neimark et al. to reclassify Eperythrozoon suis as 'Candidatus' is not acceptable; it would lose standing in nomenclature (List Editor, 2001).
