The species Bacillus alcalophilus was originally described by Vedder 1934. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nielsen et al. published an emended description of this species in 1995. In 2020, Patel and Gupta established as the basonym of (Vedder 1934) Patel and Gupta 2020 .
