The species Bacillus azotofixans was originally described and validly published by Seldin et al. 1984. In 1993, Ash et al. established as the basonym of (Seldin et al. 1984) Ash et al. 1994 pro synon. Paenibacillus durus corrig. (Smith and Cato 1974) Collins et al. 1994 emend. Guella et al. 2019 .
