The species Bacillus cycloheptanicus was originally described by Deinhard et al. 1987. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 25 in 1988. In 1992, Wisotzkey et al. established Bacillus cycloheptanicus as the basonym of
Alicyclobacillus cycloheptanicus (Deinhard et al. 1988) Wisotzkey et al. 1992
