Nomenclatural History

The species Bacillus formosus was originally described by Porter 1940. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1995 the name was revived and validly published by Shida et al.. In 1996, Shida et al. established Bacillus formosus as the basonym of
Brevibacillus formosus (Shida et al. 1995) Shida et al. 1996
