The species Bacillus mycoides was originally described by Flügge 1886. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Liu et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Liu et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Lechner et al. 1998 in 2018.
