The species Bacillus odysseyi was originally described and validly published by La Duc et al. 2004. In 2012, Jung et al. established as the basonym of (La Duc et al. 2004) Jung et al. 2012 .

Tindall 2019 asserts that one of the nomenclatural type deposits is a patent strain.
