The species Bacillus schlegelii was originally described by Schenk and Aragno 1979. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 6 in 1981. In 2013, Kämpfer et al. established Bacillus schlegelii as the basonym of
Hydrogenibacillus schlegelii (Schenk and Aragno 1981) Kämpfer et al. 2013
