Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 28 in 1989. The species Bacillus simplex was originally described by Meyer and Gottheil 1901. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1988 the name was revived by Priest et al.. Heyrman et al. published an emended description of this species in 2005. In 2020, Patel and Gupta established as the basonym of (Priest et al. 1989) Patel and Gupta 2020 .
