Nomenclatural History
The species Thermodesulfobacterium thermophilum was originally described by Rozanova and Pivovarova 1988. This name was validly published by List Editor 1995. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 71 in 2003. Rozanova and Pivovarova formed this name in 1988 by placing the species Rozanova and Khudyakova 1974 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Zeikus et al. 1995 emend. Jeanthon et al. 2002. Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes established as an earlier homotypic synonym of Rozanova and Pivovarova 1991 pro synon. Thermodesulfobacterium thermophilum (Rozanova and Khudyakova 1974) Rozanova and Pivovarova 1995 in 2003.

The valid publication date for Thermodesulfobacterium thermophilum is 1995 because the genus name Thermodesulfobacterium was not validly published until it appeared on the Validation List No. 52 in 1995. Refer to Judicial Opinion 71.
