The species Exiguobacterium acetylicum was originally described and validly published by Farrow et al. 1994. Farrow et al. formed this name in 1994 by placing the species (Levine and Soppeland 1926) Breed 1957 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Collins et al. 1984.
