Nomenclatural History
The genus Geobacillus was originally proposed and validly published by Nazina et al. 2001. Coorevits et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2012. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Aliyu et al. in 2018.

The emendation by Aliyu et al. 2016 was later corrected and re-published in full by Aliyu et al. 2018.
