Pasteuria ramosa Metchnikoff 1888 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Starr et al. 1983
Nomenclatural History
The species Pasteuria ramosa was originally described by Metchnikoff 1888. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 61 in 1986. Starr et al. published an emended description of this species in 1983.

P. ramosa was described with type strain ATCC 27377 by Staley (1973). Starr et al.(1983) requested the re-assignment of ATCC 27377 to Planctomyces staleyi and conservation of P. ramosa with just the original description as its type. Judicial Opinion 61 officially rejected ATCC 27377 as the type strain for P. ramosa and conserved the name Pasteuria ramosa with the type description of Metchnikoff 1888, emended by Starr et al. 1983. However, it did not assign ATTC 27377 to P. staleyi as requested. ATCC 27377 was later assigned as the type strain of Pirella staleyi by Schlesner and Hirsch (1984). The genus Pirella was rejected (Schlesner and Hirsch 1987) due to rule 51b of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria and replaced by the genus Pirellula.
