Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. The species Pasteuria penetrans was originally described by Thorne 1940. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1985 the name was revived by Sayre and Starr.
