Nomenclatural History
The species Planococcus mcmeekinii was originally described by Junge et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 67 in 1998. In 2001, Yoon et al. established as the basonym of (Junge et al. 1998) Yoon et al. 2001 .

Gupta and Patel 2019 effectively reverse the placement of this species into Planomicrobium by Yoon et al. 2001.
