The species Planomicrobium okeanokoites was originally described and validly published by Yoon et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Yoon et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species
Planococcus okeanokoites (ZoBell and Upham 1944) Nakagawa et al. 1996
into the genus Planomicrobium Yoon et al. 2001.
