Nomenclatural History
The genus Sporosarcina was originally proposed by Kluyver and van Niel 1936. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Gibson published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Yoon et al. in 2001 and Gupta and Patel in 2019.
