The species Marinococcus albus was originally described by Hao et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 19 in 1985. In 2007, Yoon et al. established Marinococcus albus as the basonym of
Salimicrobium album (Hao et al. 1985) Yoon et al. 2007
