Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Staphylococcus aureus aureus was originally described by Rosenbach 1884. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1990, Howey et al. reduced Rosenbach 1884 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Madhaiyan et al. 2020 to the rank of subspecies. Madhaiyan et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of De la Fuente et al. 1985 in 2020.
