The subspecies Staphylococcus aureus anaerobius was originally described and validly published by De la Fuente et al. 1985. Madhaiyan et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Staphylococcus aureus aureus Rosenbach 1884 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2020.
