Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Staphylococcus saprophyticus saprophyticus was originally described by Shaw et al. 1951. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1996, Hájek et al. reduced (Fairbrother 1940) Shaw et al. 1951 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Madhaiyan et al. 2020 to the rank of subspecies. Madhaiyan et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Hájek et al. 1996 in 2020.
