The subspecies Staphylococcus succinus casei was originally described by Place et al. 2002. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 89 in 2003. Madhaiyan et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (Place et al. 2003) Madhaiyan et al. 2020 in 2020.
