Nomenclatural History

The species Staphylococcus vitulinus was originally described and validly published by Webster et al. 1994. Trüper and de' Clari corrected this name from Staphylococcus vitulus (sic) to Staphylococcus vitulinus . Švec et al. published an emended description of this species in 2004. Švec et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Staphylococcus pulvereri Zakrzewska-Czerwińska et al. 1995
in 2004. In 2020, Madhaiyan et al. established Staphylococcus vitulinus as the basonym of
Mammaliicoccus vitulinus (Webster et al. 1994) Madhaiyan et al. 2020
