Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 11 in 1983. The species Lactobacillus alimentarius was originally described by Reuter 1970. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1983 the name was revived by Reuter. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Reuter 1983) Zheng et al. 2020 .
